Sure, the new iPhone may &quot;only be $199&quot;, but that&#039;s if you take out a 2 year contract (3 years in Canada) starting at $40-$60 per month respectively.

Add in additional data rates if you really want to make use of what 3G has to offer, and you&#039;re soon looking at another $30-$40 per month.

All things told, by the time you come to your contract period end, you&#039;ll have spent around $2,000 on this &quot;wonderful $199 phone&quot;. With this cost, many users are already bypassing any of the data services and just using the basic features.

Until Apple can subsidize the providers like AT&amp;T and Rogers, etc, I can&#039;t see there being a lot of take-up on new data-heavy programs.</description>
